I very much enjoyed a two day‘s hike in the Northern Drakensberg region. Right from the onset everything was very well organised - I even got good advice from Gavin how to organise logistics around arrival from Pretoria - and then I went into the mountains with a very experienced and very friendly guide. It is a wonderful landscape and I had an unforgettable camping on top of the mountain. It was a wonderful weekend and I can only recommend Peak High Mountaineering!

I recently started climbing and want the family to experience sport climbing outdoors. My wife and I spent the day with Gavin and feel confident that we would be able to take family and friends out after a few more sessions. We learnt to belay, abseil, lead climb and clean the top rope anchors. We purchased equipment through Gavin that is suitable for the children as well and he has followed up by changing equipment that was too big for my son. We haven’t had to worry that we are buying incorrect or unnecessary equipment and most importantly know that the equipment we have is safe. Gavin’s attention to safety is the stand out feature of his training and I would recommend Peak High for anyone wanting to learn the ropes.

I have booked a climbing trip in the Drakensberg with Gavin for later in the year. As a novice trad climber, in preparation for the trip, Gavin set up a training day for me at Monteseel outside Durban in KZN. The day was a great success. I was made aware of the various equipment options and how to use them. We managed to do a few fun but challenging routes. Gavin’s knowledge is exceptional and he has great communication skills which really help with a beginner such as myself. I thoroughly enjoyed the day out and look forward to our Drakensburg adventure.

My recent hiking trip with Peak High Mountaineering was nothing short of extraordinary. Deon, my guide, was a wealth of knowledge, deeply rooted in the landscape and South African culture, having lived in the region his entire life. His attentiveness, particularly when it came to my food allergies, was greatly appreciated, and his swift assistance with a faulty tent during a rainstorm ensured that nothing was compromised. As a solo traveler, I felt completely safe and well cared for under his guidance. The weather was spectacular, and the views were beyond breathtaking, making this trek one of the most unforgettable experiences I’ve had. It stands out as one of my favorite hikes in Africa—possibly my top choice overall. I cannot recommend it highly enough for anyone seeking a truly memorable adventure. Gavin delivered a great Walking Group Leaders Course for my team of instructors. He was clear and made sure everyone had grasped the skills. We went on an incredible adventure with Gavin to the Drakensburg mountains. We climbed Beacon Buttress, Tugela Falls and Sentinel Peak and slept in a cave on the mountain. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience, the views and scenery, as well as the challenge and fulfillment of the hiking and climbing. Most of all we really appreciated the guidance of Gavin and Peak High, and the help in this trip and we could not and would not have had the same trip without him. The challenge: I wanted to climb the highest peaks of South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland.  Decided to reach out to Gavin from Peak High Mountaineering who agreed to support me and organized the logistics in an excellent way. Perfect accommodation, good selection of local guides and porters where needed and optimal preparation of the hikes. Gavin also showed broad knowledge of the history of the Drakensberg area an South Africa. He is a legend and surely the best guide for exploring the Drakensberg region!
