What is a blog?

A blog (a contraction of the term weblog) is a website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic.

The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs.

What is an RSS Feed?

It is along the lines of going to the corner shop and collecting your favourite newspaper in the morning.

What is a feed?
If you want to know when a cool new article, blog post, or discussion thread appears on your favorite Web sites without checking these sites religiously or having emails stuff your inbox, you can subscribe to specific "feeds" that are collected or "aggregated" in one handy place to read when you feel like it.

These feeds are sometimes called RSS feeds, which stands for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary.

How do I read feeds?
If you want to subscribe to feeds, there are over 2,000 different free or paid online, mobile, and desktop applications, aka "aggregators" or "news readers" out there that will display your feeds.

Personalized homepages like "My Yahoo" or "Google Homepage" are currently the most user-friendly way to read feeds.

You can find a simple and free newsreader on Google, which will help you get started.
